Lens Care Education: Building Your Confidence

Inserting Your Lenses

Placing scleral lenses on your eyes is a little different from regular contact lenses.  Most people use a plunger tool to hold the lens while filling it with preservative-free saline solution. Then, with your head tilted down, the lens is gently placed onto your eye.

  • Tip: Don’t rush! Take your time as you get comfortable with the process. It’s okay to ask questions or practice several times during your visit.

Removing Your Lenses

Removing scleral lenses is straightforward with the right tools and technique.   A smaller,  plunger tool is used to lift the lens off gently.  You will be shown backup methods for scleral lens removal in case you ever misplace your tool.

  • Tip: Always handle your lenses over a soft, clean surface (or a towel) to avoid any accidents. Cover any open drains.

Cleaning and Storing Your Lenses

Proper cleaning is essential to keep your lenses clear, comfortable, and free of harmful buildup. We’ll recommend the best cleaning solutions for your lenses and show you how to:

  • Rinse your lenses thoroughly with a cleaning solution to remove deposits.
  • Store them in a clean, sterile case filled with a disinfecting solution.
  • Avoid common mistakes, like using tap water, which can damage your lenses and introduce harmful bacteria.
  • Tip: Consistency is key. Building a routine will make lens care feel like second nature.
